Yo Jesse the best thing for a back up is a lindy tube like I told you before its a great throw back lure!the other thing you can change is from an erratic retrieve to a slow retrieve vise versa.plus you can always down size your lure to help intise a bite.or if you have a very active fish that won't bite come back at night with a top water lure.the water temps are perfect for that now.this is what I learned. An read in magazines but maybe some of the other veterns can chime in!

If you are having follows try and reel as fast as you can as soon as you see the fish sometimes that will trigger a fish , dont slow the bait down , Try them at different times of the day / night .

I agree with Matt, speed and sometimes change in direction will get them to commit. I've converted very few follows to hits and fish in the boat. But one I remember was on a bucktail on a small stained river in NY, I was reelling in slow and steady, as I brought it to the boat and turned the lure to go into an 8 and sped it up, the fish hit, a nice 42 incher! One other time, I remeber slow retreiving a spoon and seeing a stir way off to the left of my lure and the slow wake of the fish heading towards my spoon, I sped up the spoon and got the fish. One other tactic that worked was really burning the lure and some quick twitches, after seeing some follows, this got them to hit. Hope this helps, good luck and can't wait to see the pics!

And from my readings and gathering of info., all the other stuff mentioned, like using a tube for a throwback, and topwater at night, etc. are definitely time tested proved ways to come back and get the fish.

Let us know what works.
