Hi All -

New to Muskie fishing and joined the site last year. I live 2 minutes from the Erwinna PA (Tinicum) boat launch and am on the Delaware at least once a week. I was always interested in Muskie since I was young fishing for small mouth in the Susky around Muncy. I only fished for Bass and Trout never tried Muskie fishing back then. A frequent fishing buddy of my father was always fishing for Muskie while Bass fishing. He landed at least 1 fish per outing. I was amazed by the fish to say the least. I had bass and suckers cut in half by Muskies when retrieving them. I got away from fishing for some 15 years or so but my son who is going to be 5 loves it and rekindled my love as well. So I bought an older aluminum Bass tracker and mounted a jet on the back last year. Nothing great but it will get me anywhere I want to go on the Delaware and not worried about the boat.

I spent a good part of last summer on the Delaware searching for Muskie and Striped bass. I've heard of a few spots to fish but wanted to know if anyone has any additional spots or tips.

I've never caught a Muskie and never even seen one on the Delaware River though I hear they are there.

Where I heard they are -

Mouth of Musky in Riegelsville - fished only once and no luck.
Power Plant - fished a lot no luck

Where I think they are -

Dam below Erwinna boat launch on PA side - A few large Bass - nothing else
Mouth of Tinicum Creek - nothing
Boyscout island - nothing
Old railroad bridge north of stockon
I don't see anyone fishing for them and really minimal pressure below Riegelsville. There are tubers from Frenchtown to Stockton in the summer which may impact where they are.

I'm willing to travel further if I have a better chance. I'll be trying Nockamixon this year but I have a 60 jet so need to troll around or buy a kicker. I'm also planning a Susky trip to my old fishing waters this summer. My son can't wait to get back out there. He asks nearly every day when we going fishing.

Again, any advise or tips would be very helpful.

Glad you checked back in with us, Drtyjers. An ol timer I met recently at a bar over your way - he gave me a unorthadox tip... He and other ol timers, get suckers that are running up a feeder creek. They live-line them, wait for a fish to take the bait, then smoke the ol cig, and reel em in....but this is the part where I fell off the bar stool.... they use dental floss and no hooks! Sucker is in the gut - they reel em in - and cut the floss. They say the fish passes the floss - no harm to the skiee.
I dont endorse this - just thought it was a bit unusual lol

Stop by our April meeting - you may get a few suggestions from people that have had success in that stretch. Also, we raffle off 'secret' baits at the meeting and usually have a good time 🙂

Thanks Guys! I'll try to make the April meeting.

I was live lining 6-8 shiners I net from the creek in my back yard last year. When high water comes the carp and shiners come up the stream to get out of the river and sit in a pool until the water resides. I can literally sit on the bank and watch the fish head upstream to the spillover from the canal. When the water comes down most head back to the river. Some stay all year though (until I net them).

My son fishes it all year and catches suny's shiners and 1 10' large mouth bass that calls the hole his home.

Caught a ton of 10+ lb Catfish and some 20+ in small mouth bass live lining (all released). The river is producing larger bass than I can ever remember. We caught a good number of small mouth over 17 inches this past year.

Keith,

It's Jake (Tim's buddy). I heard you been killing the walleye's. I know we spoke last summer about Muskie fishing at Carters B-day party. I got the jet if your ready to guide. I can manage a few days off of work, or weekends, and do some day trips. I can run from Stockton to above Riegelsville without a problem (further but haven't ventured beyond that yet).

Thanks,
Jake

Jake, welcome to the board! Did you say 2 min from the Erwinna ramp? Welcome neighbor, we live right near each other as I'm 2 min away! I thought I was the only Muskie nut using that ramp! Look forward to meeting you at the next meeting or perhaps I'll see you this weekend on the river!

Don't forget about Spencer tomorrow evening at Cabela's, you're welcome to come up!

Yes. I can see and walk to Tinicum Park from my back door. I live behind, former Bucks Bounty.

I will likely be out my mid-April if the weather and river levels are good.

Hopefully, see you out there.

Jake

Ah, Bellissimo's, great food, been there a few times now and have enjoyed it. The owner has family in Zurich, I was just over in Switzerland not long ago and we happen to have that conversation. Way off topic, but welcome to the board and hopefully I'll see you on the water soon. I launched out of Tinicum on Sunday, levels were decent. I run a black Snyder, see you on the water!

Hey whats going on. I am about an hour away from where you are. Have only ever fished the Del in the Easton and the Poconos. Would come down for a trip if you were interested in going out. Dont mind paying either. I have yet to catch a musky and have been trying for about 2 years now. Just seen the study done in Lake Nox, going to give that a try this weekend!
