i saw a guy trolling the other day, he had his poles in rod holders pointing almost straight down. the tips were in the water atleast 18" i assume he was doing it to get his lures deeper, but i really have no idea. the lake isn't very big or deep. is this common practice among trollers? do any of you guys do this? input welcome?

I generally troll with the tips in the water to keep weeds from running down the line and fouling the bait. Don't know why it was that deep though.
We may only see what we look for.

the weed thing never even crossed my mind but makes sense. thanks i saw some trollers at the lake of follows today who had pa plates on their trucks, was wondering if it was anyone from mi50? yankees won today now its the phiilies turn 🙂

i had the jet boat, you were throwing a cowbell,right? Nah nothing i havent fished there in a long time figured id give it a shot since the rivers arnt cooperating this week.i was trolling around right before i left.

Control, added depth, collecting surface debris and being able to keep any bait down at speed are some of the reasons to bury the rod.
But I'm just an Egg Sack so take that for what it's worth.. hahaha
