OK, seems like we're locked indoors with some cold weather for a while so I figured I'd try to get some life on the board as well as maybe help some new guys with what baits may be working for others. So if you want to participate, list your top 5 producing baits of all time below. I'm going with actual brand and color not just bait type.

1) Black/Brass Spitzertail
2) Perch/Brass Spitzertail
3) Black Bulldawg
4) Manta in Lac Seul Perch and Fire Tiger
5) Warner Crankbait, Perch

* If I combined all glider brands and colors the would be my #3 bait.

Mine aren't specific to Penn /Jersey since I've only fished Pymatuning up that direction.
(1) Topraider in Blackbird .
(2) 9" Suick in dull black.
(3) 8" jointed Believer in yellow/black Jailbird.
(4) 5.5 " straight Wiley . [used to be a perchy color but now a Durst Brown Runt after a rebuild ]
(5) Boo Dadley in Rihanna.
I'm in the group that believes certain lures just have "IT". The topraider mentioned has numbers of fish in several states and two provinces.
No idea what the total for that Wiley is but easily 30+.
The Believer seems to at least raise fish everywhere .
The Boo Dadley likes big fish and either of the two old black Suicks have lots of teeth marks though I can't really work them now with the bad left arm. >:(

Hmmm, this is a hard question for me. I have more like a top 30 or so...shouldn't surprise anyone. So I'll put my top 5 or so of 2013 which are more Rowan Lake related, but would throw them anywhere with confidence. Some were fish catchers & some were fish locators. Seems every year baits & color preferences change for me. Can even be day to day.

1. Spitzertail
2. Dadson Blade Bait Bullet
3. Stumpie
4. Podmarsky: Custom Glider, & Tailbaits
4. Manta: Custom Matt Gillispie Color
4. BCS Customs: Various custom gliders
4. Shadzilla, Bulldawg
4. Various topwaters

There are several # 4's. They all seemed to have the same amount of fish action at various times. 🙂

There you have it!!

Good points. What has worked well going back 4+ years for me may not be exactly what is raising the fish in 2013. While I did pick up a couple Bulldawg fish in 2013, most of my bulldawg catches were in 2010 and 2011.

Cold and rainy/snowy here so lots of time to think!
Remembered that many years ago most of our fish came on spinnerbaits or F 18 rapalas in the ugly perch color. Still like spinnerbaits but the old F18s just aren't cool enough to use ! 😮 Bet they still would work just fine.
Own WAY too much stuff and tend to not haul some that deserve water time.
Did get a fat 45 this year on one of Silvia's creations. Silly on my part but only threw it a few hours .
Seriously considering donating that Wiley to the stocking fund raiser. Don't have the nerve to use it myself anymore and it deserves to make memories for someone else.

In my first short year of musky fishing, the only baits that produced fish for me were a cowgirl and a medussa. Everything else in my box, I haven't given enough time to produce fish, because I always go back to those two baits. Not sure if I think they are confident boosters and easy baits to use or just lucky. Since it's my first year it's probably lack of intelligence that's holding me back from using those baits. Maybe next year!

Glad to see we have some replies.

Corey, look at the posts and you can see what others are having succes with. Maybe try a new lure or two each year. While you know I'm a huge fan of bucktails, they only account for about 50% of my fish. Thats actually an eye opener for me because I'd say I throw them far more than 50% of the time... I've learned when to switch up to gliders, suicks or bulldawgs depending upon the body of water, weather, water clarity, water temps and if I'm targeting weeds, timber, boulders, drop offs or humps.

I know there's a lot more knowledge and experience out there, maybe we'll hear from a few more members. 8)

My top 5 producers, in no particular order are:
1. Jointed bucher depth raider
2. 8 inch beleiver
3. Glitter walleye buldawg
4. Red October ninja tubes
5. 7 and 9 inch grandma

Probably should include legend outcast too. Most of my fish came from the st lawrence or the susky. Suicks and gliders are top producers too, no matter where muskies live ;D

In perticular order
- bulldawgs

- bucher depthraiders
- Warner cranks

like others have said, these are my top producers over the last few years.
Suck its (Suicks), topwaters, bucktails and shallow invadors would be the next on the list

Not surprising but very cool to see that we all succeed with different baits. As a result of this thread, I know of at least one newer member who is looking for where he can buy some Spitzertails. I put him in the right direction.

The lakes are freezing over here in NM, so I'm pretty much done out here too. It's generally a different set of lures here for NM tigers than it was when I fished in PA for purebreds, but these have been consistent for me:

-black/white Bobbie
-black Bagley B-Flat
-perch Leo jerkbait
-black softtail Phantom
-shad River2Sea Ripper (First-timers have done really well on this for tigers, with two over 40" in my boat this year)
-sucker Warner minnow (honorable mention - a great lure I haven't had much time with)

I have about another dozen or so go-to-lures depending on conditions, but the question was the most productive, not my favorites (which is a bit of a different list that includes some lures I just haven't had long enough). In spite of their effectiveness, I don't throw bucktails or Bulldawgs much, even though I'm sure they would catch plenty of fish.

Hey Chris, thanks for the input. The black/white bobbie could work for tigers in Marsh Creek for sure. I've seen two nice tigers with a crappie in their jaws this past spring. The black phantom softtail could catch muskie anywhere they live with the right angler on the other end of the rod.

My list of movers:

1. Phantom 6"-10", any color. Think I've moved fish with everyone that I own. Kind of partial to the walleye and crappie. Love em! I can put the small ones into a weedy mess and dance em through in 12" of water, big ones I've pulled fish from a 60' pool.

2. AC Glider (hoping to see it again someday...lol) Seb's Black perch pattern was such a hit, I only got one day of fishing with it before the 7 fish that hit it ripped the paint off it.

3. Double 10 cowgirl, in the 8! Like the darker naturals in maraboo.

4. Suick, 9", weighted. Just started putting time into these a while ago, with effort came the follows.

5. Cowgirl Jr. Many colors

Confidence is key! Use what you believe in.

220...., 221...., Whatever it takes.

Natural colors work best for myself, on cranks and gliders. Buck tails, can't go wrong with black. I only own one bait that I didn't make so ill just list favorite colors besides the spitzertail.
1. Golden shiner
2. Crappie
3. Sucker/walleye
4. Marabou buck tail black feathers various blade colors
5. Spitzertail black on black. This was the first bucktail I owned. First fig 8 fish the first day I used it, learned a lot with it just starting out.
