You usually "get what you pay for", but at $49.99 can I go wrong? Does anyone have any experience with these or thoughts? I'm looking for something all purpose casting, and might try these if they aren't junk.

I used one for a while as a jerkbait/topwater rod. Worked just fine.

Should be fine. I'd recommend the 7'6" XH 4 oz-10-oz. Don't want a soft tip with gliders/jerk baits IMO

Any rod can work for you. But typically you want a longer rod for bulldawgs and blades like 8' or 8.5' and shorter rod for gliders and jerk baits like 7' and 7.5' because you're twitching the rod down in front of you.

I keep one of the 6' 3" ones at my parent's house because it was cheaper than shipping rods back and forth. It works fine for all-around fishing with most lures and has sufficient backbone for most jerkbaits and crankbaits that I throw (usually to 8" or so). You should be able to toss Bulldawgs as well, but you may want to go to the 7' size for the really heavy stuff.

It really comes down to what feels best in your hand for the techniques you use, and many times you just have to try it. 20 years ago when I started this muskie fishing thing, there weren't many rods rated for heavier than 4 oz lures, and that still covers most of the things I want to spend my time throwing. However, the recent trends for giant bucktails and pounder swimbaits has really upped the ratings on many rods.

It's a pretty good risk to take for $50, minus whatever discounts you can find.

Chris

Thanks for the insight. I think I will go to at least a 7'.

Remember, the longer your rod, the less you have to bend over for figure 8's. That can add up to a very sore back at the end of the day.
