I purchased a few 7.5" Phantom soft tails recently and picked up one of the "new" deep down verison. The regular 7.5" weighs 4 oz. and the deep down weighs 6 oz. I threw all 3 yesterday and the deep down was like throwing a brick. Literally, it just drops nose down to the bottom with little or no action when worked in. The belly just rolls up when you try to work it in without any zigzag action. I called MTO today and Aaron said he agrees. He called Phantom on this same issue and they said you have to twitch it really hard to get it to work right ??? Well, thats not how I work Phantoms, especially this time of the year. Anyway, they are exchanging that one for a regular for me.

Just wanted to let everyone know in case you're considering a purchase.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The water is going to be too high for while now but if you can, give it a try with the advice to twitch it back much harder than normal. Maybe it will work. I didnt get that advice until after I fished it.

I sent Aaron a thank you for taking care of me on my exchange. Here was his reply.

"You're welcome, Mike. I'm happy I could help. Just an FYI. In part due to your concern on those deep phantoms (as well as others), Phantom is actively working on reweighting them to make them work better. In fact, yesterday he asked me to send all of the deep softails I have back to them. So I'm hopeful that when they release them again that they will be a much better product and more what people were expecting. They do tell me that their standard deep (no tail) works well and they have received no negative feedback on that one. I have not personally tried that one yet."

Thanks again!
Aaron

I've read on Muskies First that Phantom has completed reweighting these deep down plugs and thatthey are for sale and work properly now. Who will be the first to try them again??? 😛

Has anyone purchased a Deep Down Phantom Softail since April 0f 2013? You can read in earlier posts in this thread, they were not weighted properly at first and I sent mine back. I've know that they pulled them all back, fixed them and they should work better now. I may order two this week. I wanted to know if the zig zag action is good when working it and when you stop does it drop level amd wobble as it descends. In general do you like the action on them? Thanks for any feedback.

Sometimes you've got to "jiggle' it, and sometimes you've got to give it one big
