problems on st lawrence

I have been following a site about buffalo harbor and these guys are really upset about the decline in there natural fishery . The problem is big and there are 5or6 differn't causes one of them was handling these large fish. This is just one clip(I do agree with you on the photo problem. I wish I could get across to some of the younger guys that when you get older those pictures mean very little. Lifting an already stressed fish—one that has generously given you the thrill of the strike and the battle—from the water for only 5 or 10 seconds (it's usually much longer) is equivalent to sticking your own head underwater for that same amount of time after you’ve run a couple hundred yards at top speed—without a chance to inhale first. Neither am I fully sold on most nets—particularly the ones with the rough mesh. If a large fish must be netted let it be with one of the really huge ones or a cradle. And if a photo is to be taken, take it with the fish in the water and a 4’ stick for size comparison—keep the fisherman’s mug out of it.)

I thought differntly after reading it but I still want my mug in the picture. Faced with losing natural muskies I would not hold them. They will be setting up a fund to save the muskies and I am going to support it . I better go fishing soon

I was talking with member Pete Lahosky (mi22 member) and he told me they have a on board wash down system ,they put a water hose in the fishes mouth while they unhook it . I guess this what some of the charter captians do up on the larry.

He just caught and released a 55.5x27 that was in the 50lb class ,and said it swam off like a rocket using those release methods. The pic is posted on the 22 message board and web site .

If I catch a big fish I'm at least getting a couple of quick pics then off she goes . The trick is speed , get her done.
