Do muskies porpoise like a dolphin? As in just shwoing their back above the surface of the water? I'll tell you why when i know the answer.

the reason i asked was becuase i was at marsh creek tonight and while fishing over near the main area with the pool and boat launch, i was casting in the little branch their and saw a fish just porpoising out of the water. just showing its back and tail and stuff. it did it a few times during i would say a 5 minute span. it didnt look like a carp but im not sure because it was out at like 50 yards. i couldnt even cast to it, the reason i think it was a musky was becuase it was very long, i'd say 40 inches, no dorsal fin, smooth back with fin near tail like a musky. so with all that it seems it was a musky. it was weird and i just wanted to know if they did that.

Don't know if this helps or not, but i have seen muskies temporarily act like a carp with this rolling on the top. I thought it was a carp the entire time until I worked my way down river and he came almost totally out of the water, then I knew it was musky... about a 30"er but still gave a little show, he ended up following the spook in but never took the bait. And didn't roll anymore that night.

I've seen 'em chase bait (live and dead) on top. Makes sense to me...

I've seen muskies roll on the surface, just like carp. They just come to the top and roll around, it's weird. But, from my experience, those fish will not go after a lure.
