So it looks as though I may have a 4 day weekend over thanksgiving and was seriously contemplating taking the ride to st clair. Its going to be the end of November in Michigan however. Is it too late for some muskies before the puddle ices over? cold doesn't bother me, but I don't want to fish chocolate milk and 3' whitecaps if I can help it. Any thoughts? I figure I will be chucking big rubber in the mouth of the Detroit river, so ant suggestions on places to stay without getting car jacked would also be appreciated.

Hey Lenny,

I don't have experience on LSC this time of year but I definitely want to try it sometime. I've always gone the week after opener for the last 5 years or so. As you mentioned, LSC can kick up quickly given how shallow it is so be careful if you make the trip and keep us posted on how you make out.

GO! You'll catch a 50". Look for hotels around Roseville, you'll be fine. Fish the Canadian Side.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances I believe I will be making the 8hr haul Tuesday night around midnight with the hopes of being on the water Wednesday morning. If the weather/water is decent I'm going to try and make a 3 day weekend of it. I imagine it will be fairly cold and that I will be throwing big rubber baits for hours on end. If the old man can put a 40" or better in the boat I will consider the trip a success. If either of us put a 50" or better fish in the boat I will be back several times over the next season!

Be safe. Belle River would be the better choice of place to stay given the amount of mud the winds will have churned up just before you get there. A good map chip will be handy too. Some super shallow sand flats far from shore.

Not familiar with belle river. Is that the north end of the lake? And as far as the chip, I already purchased one which should be arriving early this week. Thanks for the pointers.

Belle River is on Ontario side --the South Shore.

As much as I hate to type this I think I am going to throw in the towel. I want to get this last trip in so badly, but it is my understanding that the launches are pretty frozen, and the weather looks to be rough until Thursday. It was suggested that I go to cave run, and while I think it is a great idea, don't have time to properly plan the trip. I won't go on a 10hr road trip with no planning at all. I will make it to LSC, it just won't be this year. Looks like I am restricted to my local puddle for the rest of the season. Thanks for all of the help guys.

Good choice. Fall is just too variable weather wise for LSC. Big fish pictures look great but those are coming from guys in 20+ foot boats that know exactly where to fish in four foot waves.
Cave Run is fairly simple to fish @ around 8,000 acres. Too cold for my old bones now though ! 🙁
